Russian Cruiser Aurora
Russian Cruiser Aurora (Petrogradskaya Naberezhnaya, St. Petersburg) – the Russian military’s legendary cruiser, the Aurora, marked its 110th birthday in 2010. The Aurora took part in the Russo-Japanese war, in WWI and in the Russian Civil War of 1917-1921. On 25 October 1917, a blank shot from her forecastle gun marked the beginning of the assault on the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg (then Petrograd), which started the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution. The Aurora became a museum in 1950, and has stayed afloat ever since. Free admission. Hours: 10 am – 4 pm (Tuesday-Thursday, Saturday & Sunday) (closed on Monday & Friday).
